day 3
5 common electrical plan mistakes that could cost you thousands.
Building is a big deal with an even bigger budget. And you've got one chance to get it right.
Because one mistake isn’t just a setback. It’s an entire do over!
Most people think wrong decisions are the biggest culprit in blowing your budget, but it’s actually oversights. Like when you don’t pay attention to a faint little notation on a plan.
Here's 5 electrical plan mistakes that are more common than you'd expect and could cost you.
-
Don’t position light switches behind doors. There is nothing worse than fumbling around in the dark trying to find a switch so if you relocate a door or change the direction it opens, move the switch too.
- Don’t have a light switch with more than 3 switches. Have you ever had to turn on every light to work out which switch was which? Annoying, right? Keep the switches to 3 or under so it's easy to remember which switch is for which light.

3. Don’t put in quad power points. Your devices might have large transformers which will restrict the amount of devices you can plug in side by side. Put in two double power points instead.

4. Don’t switch the exhaust fan and light together. You don't need to hear the fan whirling while you’re just doing your make up or having a shave.
5. Don’t forget two way switches or you'll get caught having to blindly feel your way down a dark hallway to turn on a light.
And our last little bonus tip... Don't position a power point in the middle of a bed. Unless you fancy crawling under your bed to plug your phone charger in, move the power point closer to the bedside tables.
